You may have noticed, that there are no product announcement for Oracle products on this page, even when there are now a lot of announcement that i was really waiting for a long time. And i will keep it this way. So in case you want information about announcement, you have to search them at other locations. I want to draw your attention to a blog by my colleages working in the eSTEP (EMEA Systems Technology Enablement Program) program. They started just it. So i would like to ask for your kind attention for:"The official eSTEP blog"

Since the closure of the blog i got many many requests for giving content to people in form of an excerpt of the database. Even more. I got a significant numbers of angry mails. It seems that i was the best source for some things and thus the people were really angry about removing their source of information. I was somewhat astonished about the anger, however in absolute numbers it was significant but in relative numbers it was rather small. Nevertheless, i didn't expected angry people.

After thinking about the whole weekend i decided to put selected content back online instead of creating a pdf of the blog page and sending it to the people asking for content. As a side effect, it repairs a lot of links on Solaris related pages.

However the reasons for my blog closure are still valid, the blog stays in this freezed state. Thus i decided to do this as a selective republication. Certain classes of documents will stay offline. In that regard i made the following decision, which content gets back into blog: Personal content on one side, work related technical content as long it's related to Solaris on the other side.

Just in case you've wondered about the relative silence at this blog this weekend: I started to re-implement the code behind codenews and the patchnews framework to a single one. It ended with implementing a more generic framework that triggers asynchronous jobs when something changes in the blog or other sources of information deliver new content. I think it will take some weekends but it's a good training in Python.

PS: Perhaps i will use it to build a static-file version of this blog.

Today i had a really interesting meeting with a customer in Hamburg. In the discussion about the further development of Opensolaris i've pointed to the codenews twitterfeed and got the question "No RSS feed?". Well, there wasn't really one (to be exact, you could use the rss feed of twitter, but this one is not extensible). I changed that this evening. Now you can subscribe to the information about code putbacks to the Opensolaris codebase by subscribing to http://feeds.feedburner.com/Codenews. It's the first version, so suggestions and ideas are really welcome. Full integration of the annotated putback mail in the description is already planed. At the moment there is just a link.

Just in case, you didn't saw this already: I've integrated the search in the code putbacks to Opensolaris into the left side pane of the page.

It's really seldom, that i'm spotlighting a reader in a blog entry, but i think it's necessary to give some perspective to the reader Steve A. It's really hard to annoy me that much, that i'm getting angry (despite the belief of many colleagues that i'm actually a Klingon)

This reader got annoying, when he faked a discussion in the comments to the blog entry App benchmarks, incorrect conclusions and the Sun Storage F5100. After that a discussion surged in several other locations, showing a lack of clue regarding those benchmarks and the technologies and differences, despite trying to explain several factors to him.

That wouldn't be worth an article: While 99% of comments in this blog are really knowledgeable or interesting, the 1% is a annoying but stable amount of trolling in the blog. At the end there is an easy rule to stay sane while having a blog with 2000 subscribers and thousands of vistors a day: Don't take anybody too serious, especially not yourself.

At the end an comment in a different blog was the straw that broke the camel's back. The reader Steve A. accused me of making up the numbers in Giri Mandalikas blog:

There never was an eight-stream result on the HP hardware...Joerg at c0t0d0s0.org just made that up.

Of course i didn't and Giri already answered with the links to screenshots showing the documents. The second screenshot of the benchmark whitepaper clearly shows that the widthdawn/removed benchmark of the HP rx6600 used 8 streams.

So he accused me of lying there. In the blogosphere reputation is pivotal and therefore i don't have the slightest humor in regard of such accusations. So when you read any comments of this guy in this blog, you should keep his methods in mind.

Dear Steve A., i don't have any plans to block your comments here as i can't speak out against any censorship and starting to blocking articles at the same time. But as long you do not learn to discuss in a civilized way and starting to get a clue about the stuff you are talking about, i just would prefer when you decide just to fuck off ...

Dear audience, when you see some comments of Steve A. writing such a bullshit in regard of made up numbers, just drop me a mail.

So ... i added another function in the Codenews overview page: You can search in putbacks stored in the database. The search is capable of using boolean operations, thus "+zfs* -tickless" gives you all putbacks with zfs (words with less than 3 letters must have a trailing *) in it, but without tickless.

I've made a slight extension to the codeview pages: There is an overview page for all the announced putbacks on onnv-notify now. On this page you can browse through all the putbacks that found their way to the mailinglist since 01.08.2009 17:39:17.

Perhaps you already know twitter.com/codenews. The tweets are feeded by the mail on the onnv-notify@opensolaris.org alias. Whenever new code finds it's integration into Opensolaris, a message is send to this alias. For quite a time the message on twitter just linked to an ASCII version of the mail. Today i revamped codenews:

• PSARC cases are directly linked with the log of the ARC, thus you can look into the ARC case just by a click
• The same is valid for change requests, it links to bugs.opensolaris.org
• The pages have now the CI ( ) of c0t0d0s0.org. So those pages are now really a part of the weblog.

You can look into the message for "PSARC 2009/510 ZFS received properties" as this is a good example. It contains PSARC cases and change requests.

Yet another coffee for Local .... c0t0d0s0.org broke through the 2000 subscribers line yesterday:

c0t0d0s0.org was a driven by a single person for a long time. It's a one-man-show. And it will stay this way as i like to do whatever i want to do with this blog. But i have decided to try something new: I decided to introduce a column in my blog written by someone else.

The idea to do so was born, when i saw some blog posts of a colleague. His blog has only a very small audience, but the articles (posted and planed ones) are too interesting to sleep on a page with a low page rank. Instead of helping him to establish yet another blog, we had the idea of establishing a regular column in my blog. This column doesn't have a name so far: I thought about "Practical Solaris" or "Solaris from the trenches" because the topic of this column are small and large tricks, that make your life easier with Solaris while working at customer sites. Expect a new entry in this column at a bi-weekly schedule. It's just an experiment, but let's have a look how this will develop in the next months.

The video of my Solaris 10 Security presentation (sorry, just in German) is online for just a little bit more than 24 hours and it had already 214 viewers. Perhaps i should really make an English version of it. But only when you promise not to laugh about my English pronunciation ! So this presentation had already two thirds of the viewers of the "Solaris Less known Solaris Features"-Video (only in German, too)
